Light the lights!

Colorado loves lights. We have trails of lights, parades of lights, critter lights… you name it and this great state probably lights it up! Below is a listing of some of the festive light events happening in Colorado this holiday season. Some are free, some are paid, but all are representative of true Colorado culture!

Blossoms of Light

The Denver Botanic Gardens at York Street looks as beautiful as ever when transformed into a luminous winter wonderland. Decorated in over 1 million lights, the Blossoms of Light offers kissing spots, warm beverages and access to their gift shop during Blossoms of Light hours.

Candlelight Walk

FREE – Golden, CO

Dec. 3 from 7-9pm

Join the residents of Golden for the Golden Candlelight Walk. Tour the Astor House Museum, Clear Creek History Park and the Golden History Center while singing carols and enjoying the holiday decor. And to tantalize your other senses, make sure to enjoy hot chocolate, cookies and roasted chestnuts!

Denver City & County Building Holiday Lights, 16th Street Mall Lights & Union Station

The Grand Illumination of the Denver City & County Building!

FREE – Denver, CO in downtown

Nov. 26, 2010 – Jan. 2011

The Denver City and County Building lights the night with over 600,000 LED-lights and holiday displays. Enjoy the bell tower carols while taking pictures in front of this iconic Denver holiday landmark. Then stroll along the beautifully lit 16th Street Mall, past the colorful clock tower on your way to LoDo to finish out your excursion at Union Station.


ENTRY FEE – Pueblo, CO @the Pueblo Zoo

ElectriCritters is a Pueblo tradition for over 12,000 annual visitors. Enjoy critter sculptures lit by over 250,000 lights, check out the exotic animals and relish yummy hot chocolate and other goodies while strolling through this gorgeous display!

Electric Safari

ENTRY FEE – Colorado Springs, CO @ the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

Celebrate 20 years of holiday light displays at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo! With over 40 animated light sculptures, warming fire, indoor animal exhibits and almost 1 million lights, Electic Safari is fun for the whole family!

Hudson Holiday

Presented by the Museum of Outdoor Arts and Hudson Gardens & Event Center, Hudson Holiday is a wonderful addition to the holiday lighting displays available in Colorado! 15 acres of lighting displays guarantees that everyone will find something they love at this holiday display!

Living Lights

ENTRY FEE – Westminster, CO @ the Butterfly Pavilion

Dec. 11-19 from 5:30-8pm

Join the Butterfly Pavilion for an indoor and outdoor display of lights! This holiday season, the Butterfly Pavilion’s Living Lights  includes glowing scorpions, fireflies and other invertebrates. Take a stroll through the festive gardens decked out in holiday lights and enjoy this unusual outing!

Luminarias de Santa Fe

With Luminarias de Santa Fe, the ArtDistrict on Santa Fe celebrates the holiday season by decorating the street with hundreds of festive, glowing luminarias.

Trail of Lights

With more than 1 million lights illuminating the paths of the Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield, you are assured to find something that tickles your fancy! This year, The Trail of Lights offers several trail options to fit your interest, as well as hayrides, a warming hut and tours of the Hildebrand ranch house, a 1880s homestead decorated in a Colorado Christmas motif.

Winter Wonderlights

ENTRY FEE – Parker, CO @ The Wildlife Experience

Take the kids for a wild night at The Wildlife Experience! Trek down the wildlife trail of lights and then move inside for more trails, hot beverages and a special viewing of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”

Zoo Lights

Take a holiday light safari through 38 acres of lights and live animal displays. Enjoy hot cocoa, check out the ice sculptures and make sure to take your photograph by one of the many light displays!

This annual holiday display is put on by the Hodgson’s of Firestone, CO. This year’s theme is “Believe in the Magic” and the stars of the North Pole will once again appear! One highlight of this spectacular neighborhood display is Santa’s Garage Band! Tune your radio to 93.7 for the full musical effect.

The Greeley Grizwalds


354 50th Avenue Court, Greeley, CO

Nov. 26-Jan. 1st from 5:30-10pm

This private home attempts to put the Grizwalds to shame! The light displays, consisting of over 108,000 bulbs are computer controlled and synchronized to music (so turn the dial to 93.9 FM). Be prepared to stay almost a half hour to get the entire experience!
